Review Details

We like the Imprint CumulusPRO standing-desk mat. With its solid polyurethane construction and its firm-yet-comfortable feel, it lets you stand comfortably for hours on end.

The Imprint CumulusPRO falls near the top of our current rankings of the 5 Best Standing-Desk Mats.

We like its firm support and its solid construction.

Pick this mat if you like a firm standing surface or work standing for long stretches at a time.

If you prefer a softer standing surface, then you might consider a mat like the WellnessMats Original. If you’d like to try a similarly firm but more “interesting” standing surface, give the Topo mat a look.

Materials and Construction

The Imprint CumulusPRO mat is made of solid 100% polyurethane. It has a very solid feel and has a comfortable outer surface.

The model we tested is 36″ wide by 24″ deep and 3/4″ thick. Like other mats this size, the Imprint CumulusPRO gave us plenty of room to adopt different stances and postures as we stood at a variety of standing desks during the evaluation period.

Materials and Construction score: 9/10 (90%)

The Imprint CumulusPRO mat is on the firmer end of the scale among the mats we tested. The mat surface rebounds quickly as you move and distributes pressure evenly across the surface of your feet.

If you stand for all or most of the day (as I do), firm mats like the Imprint CumulusPRO or SmartCells offer the most comfortable standing experience over long stretches.

All of our reviewer surveys found the Imprint CumulusPRO mat to be “comfortable” or “very comfortable.”

Comfort Score: 21/25 (84%)

Our testers found the Imprint CumulusPRO to have a “positive” or “neutral” effect on their productivity. None reported a negative impact on their ability to get their job done.

Like all of the conventional mats we tested, you have to lift the Imprint CumulusPRO to move it to make room for your chair if you sit for a while; you can’t easily slide it out of the way with your feet as you can with the Topo mat.

Productivity Score: 21/25 (84%)

Standing mats are sometimes called anti-fatigue mats, and all of them are designed to encourage micro-level movements. That’s a big part of how they prevent fatigue.

“Interestingness” goes beyond this fatigue-prevention level of movement. We use the term here to measure how much a mat naturally inspires and encourages curiosity about the surface on which you’re standing, resulting in even more subtle, natural movement as you work at your standing desk.

This emphasis on small natural movements is based in our focus at Well9to5 on the “active office.” Stationary standing can be almost as damaging to your body as the “sitting disease” hazards you are standing up to fight. Being active as you stand can prevent or reverse the orthopedic damage that can result from standing perfectly still for long stretches.

The Imprint CumulusPRO standing mat encouraged about the same amount movement and engagement as other flat mats, so it earned a score in the middle of our interestingness scale.

Interestingness Score: 12/20 (60%)

With its low profile, its beveled edges, and its sturdy construction, the Imprint CumulusPRO mat stays firmly and safely on the floor. It didn’t off-gas any pungent aromas when we opened the box it was delivered in.

Safety Score: (4.5/5) 90%

The Imprint CumulusPRO mat tends to collect a little bit of dust and dirt in normal use but easily wipes clean with a damp towel.

Maintenance Score: (4.5/5) 90%

The Imprint CumulusPRO mat offers a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.

Warranty Score: (5/5) 100%

Customer Service

We contacted the Imprint Mats service department via email to ask about their manufacturing process and about how to best clean the CumulusPRO mat. They replied a little more slowly than other manufacturers and weren’t quite as thorough in their reply.

Customer Service Score: (3.5/5) 70%

Overall Rating: 81%

We compute the overall rating by adding up the number of total points earned and dividing by the total possible points (which, to simplify the math, is always 100 for any one product category) and then rounding to the nearest whole digit. The rating is expressed as a percentage, but don’t automatically assign a corresponding letter grade based on that percent. This mat’s raw score of 80 is at the higher end of the scale in this current round of reviews. If we were grading on a curve the Imprint CumulusPRO would get a solid A. We will never give even the highest-rated product in a category a 100%, mainly because we’ll always leave room in each criterion in our rating system for the possibility of superior products emerging in the future.
